Pt comes in with dysuria and hematuria. Final is cystitis with hematuria and urine cult positive for chlamydia.
seeing how cystitis doesnt have “with” chlamydia I need to code them to two separate codes or should I code the chlamydia to the cystitis and add the hematuria ? thank you

Hey there Mary, if this scenario was to come across my desk I would it code it as A56.01 (Chlamydial cystitis and urethritis) which covers the infectious agent (Chlamydia) and the diagnosis of cystitis. The hematuria just as the dysuria are symptoms of cystitis so I wouldn't code them because they are part of the diagnosis and you have a confirmed cystitis. However, that's just my interpretation .

Thank you I had it coded like that then because the cystitis can code with hematuria that’s why I questioned it. Thank you so much for your input
