I am looking for the code for COPD with emphysema. I looked it up in the index by going to disease; lung; obstructive (chronic) with emphysema and found the code J43.9 but the textbook is saying it is J44.9.

J43 is for Emphysema categories with an note that says excludes emphysema with chronic obstructive bronchitis (J44.-). Under J44 we see "other chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" with an includes of emphysema. The J44 options are "with acute lower respiratory infection"; "with acute exacerbation" and "unspecified". The index helps to point in the correct direction; but may not always be the correct answer
