When considering a specialty credential, is it better to get the credential first and then apply for a job in that specific area, or is it better to get a coding job in a specialty area first and then get the credential that relates to that coding job?

The answer would be circumstantial. If your area has a job opening for that credential, review some of the want ads to see if they say it is required for applying. Then you would know if you should get it first. Or even looking at some online ads for the type of credential you want that may be offering remote work.
Personally, I think you can always learn something new :) So getting the knowledge, and credential, may never be a bad idea. Then you can use it to design the type of job you are looking for utilizing all your resources - and credentials. Good luck!
