Donna Garrett asked:

Text Risk Adjustment Documentation & Coding; page 151 Abstract & Code It; patient 2. Patient has limited ambulation due to peripheral neuropathy . . . I coded for the walking as R62.2 Difficulty in walking; not elsewhere classified and Diabetic neuropathy E11.40. On the answer on page 465 no mention was made of the walking issue. Was R62.2 not to have been coded? If not; why? Or better said; how am I supposed to know to not code it. Thank you; Donna G

Answer:

You would not code for walking difficulty because it is d/t something else. Think of it as a sign and symptom.

R26.2 - Difficulty in walking; not elsewhere classified

This code also does not carry and HCC but even if you were doing full capture you would not code it.
